Mr. Culler
I have known Mr. Culler my whole life. I grew up 3 doors down from him and his family. He has always been in into crabbing and goes multiple times a year. I have always wanted to go with him for the experience and I finally got the chance. I was not able to take many photographs as it was raining and overcast for the majority of the day. Its also hard to really get the photographs that you want when you have no control over where you are going. However, I was able to capture this portrait of him in a semi candid state. A few minutes before I asked if it would be ok to take his photograph. He agreed and I took one or two knowing full well that they would not turn out. I waited a couple minutes and tried again in hopes of getting a candid shot. He saw the camera right before I snapped the photograph. When I took the photo, I was a little disappointed that it was not candid. However, when printing it, the image really started to grow on me. It could be that I have a personal connection with the subject matter, but I feel that it goes beyond that. I have always used photography as a visual diary. It tells a story about my experiences throughout my life
